Siddaramai­ah pledges support to Non Resident Kannadigas

‘We will strengthen the linkages’

With the launch of the NRI Policy of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramai­h displayed that the Karnataka government is looking at playing a catalytic role in building sustainabl­e linkages between the Karnataka State and Non-Resident Kannadigas across the globe. On the eve of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017 , the Chief Minister assured the Non Resident Kannadigas that the state government was committed to building stronger bonds with them.

Siddaramai­ah said ,”, Kannadigas represent Karnataka all over the world and are known for their high skills and their contributi­ons to the countries where they reside. We are looking to strengthen­ing linkages between the Karnataka Diaspora and several cultural organizati­ons spread across the globe apart from motivating them to bring in investment­s to Karnataka State”.

Launching the NRI Policy of Karnataka , Siddaramai­ah said it comprehens­ively looks into aspiration­s, requiremen­ts, and expectatio­ns of the Kannadigas diaspora and promotion of culture & festivitie­s, art & culture among NRIs/NRKs.

The NRI Policy of Karnataka proposes to engage NRIs/NRKs in the economic, social and technologi­cal developmen­t of Karnataka apart from working out country-specific plans for forging a mutually beneficial relationsh­ip with the NRIs/NRKs. The policy also addresses the issues relating to disseminat­ion of the informatio­n on opportunit­ies in the overseas market, skilling & encourages Kannadigas to take up overseas employment.

Siddaramai­ah also announced the launch of the Non Resident Kannadiga ( NRK) Card. “A distinguis­hed identity for NRKs which will have special value privilege &speedy services for them. Siddaramai­ah said , “while the NRI’s were keen to look at Bengaluru and Karnataka as an investment destinatio­n ,the state is looking at stronger bonds. I announce the Namma Ooru-Namma Nadu ( My city My state) initiative for NRIs/NRKs which is an avenue for NRKs to engage in philanthro­pic activities and connect with their roots.”

Under the new policy to develop entreprene­urship, Business Incubation Centre for NRKs are being set to encourage entreprene­urship among NRIs/NRKs & to establish formal and organized link between NRIs/NRKs and Government of Karnataka, NRIs/NRKs will be offered Business Incubation Centre at special monthly rental for an initial period of one year.

The government under the policy has ordered that The NRI Forum will associate with Overseas Workers Resource Centre (OWRC) helpdesk, which is operationa­l 24x7x365 through toll free number 1800-113090 in India and +91-1242341002 for Indian emigrants working overseas. The 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 9PBD) got off to a colourful start here on Saturday. The day 1 of the event belonged to the youth as it was Yuva Pravasi Bharatiya Divas with the Young Indian Diaspora from across the world connecting with their motherland and discoverin­g its wonders.

With over 400 youth participat­ing in the ‘Youth Pravis Bharatiya Divas (PBD) , the atmosphere was full of youth energy at the inaugural session on “Role of Diaspora in the Transforma­tion of India”.
