CANADA WILL pROBE ‘pINg’ SOUND IN ARctIc
OTTAWA: The Canadian Armed Forces are sending two acoustic specialists to investigate the mysterious ping sound coming from the Arctic Ocean near Igloolik, a hamlet in northern Canada. The sound, which was noticed first last year has never been recorded. It is said to be scaring off the wildlife in the rich hunting grounds of Fury and Hecla Strait, north of Igloolik, locals said. The Canadian Forces had earlier dispatched a CP-140 Aurora aircraft to Fury and Hecla Strait, a narrow channel of water, but the crew did not detect any unexpected sounds with their equipment.
