BActERIA mOLEcULES cOULD WORk AS SUNScREEN
LOS ANGELES: A natural product made from micro-organisms called cynaobacteria could be used as a sunblock, scientists from Iran and the UK have found. In the latest issue of the European Journal of Phycology, scientists compared synthetic sunscreen substances to the natural ones produced by these organisms and made the case that cyanobacteria could produce safer sunscreens. The idea is to cultivate the bacteria in bioreactors, harvest the molecules and put them into a gel.
