Uttar Pradesh: Sector wise profile

UP is the highest producer of food grains, sugarcane potato, wheat and livestock with a large population dependant on the primary sector. In addition, the State also has four agro export zones, nine agro climatic zones, production, processing and infrastruc­ture clusters to leap ahead in comparison to other states in the Agro and Food Processing sector. UP is the largest milk producing State in India and produces about 1/5th of the total milk produce of the country. This State has the second largest cattle population and the highest bovine population in India. The State has a CAGR growth of 2% year on year for the per capita milk availabili­ty from 2011-12 to 2015-16. UP is the 3rd largest fabric producing State and the 5th largest Silk producing State in the country. The State has the 5th largest number of Handlooms contributi­ng of 6.71% of total handlooms in India. 90% of the Indian Carpet Production takes place in the State and houses the renowned Mirzapur-Bhadohi carpet cluster and the Varanasi silk cluster. The State has the 2nd highest domestic tourist footfall and the 3rd highest internatio­nal tourist footfall. The State has been regarded as ‘The Best Cultural Destinatio­n in India' by the Lonely Planet Magazine and has the presence of ten major tourism circuits/ regions and seven upcoming circuits. It also houses the Taj Mahal, One of the seven wonders in the World, in Agra. The State has been awarded ‘ the Most Friendly State Award' for two consecutiv­e years, 2015 and 2016 at the National Film Festival and has played an important role in shaping the Indian Cinema, providing a number of wonderful locations for film shooting. Some of the top shooting location sites in- clude heritage sites, pilgrimage sites, natural scenery, street and townscapes. Uttar Pradesh houses the Noida and Greater Noida regions with a close proximity to the National Capital in the National Capital Region and is one of the most preferred destinatio­ns for manufactur­ing in India. It has the presence of electronic manufactur­ing clusters and the presence of many electronic giants in the National Capital Region. The State has the presence of IT city, Lucknow and IT parks at Agra, Meerut and Gorakhpur to provide a great IT infrastruc­ture. The National Optical Fibre Network project has been launched in 2016 and has reached to thousands of panchayats, with and objective to reach a large population of the State. Uttar Pradesh has a capacity to produce 28 GW of renewable energy to reduce the dependency on the nonrenewab­le energy sources and has an ambitious objective of an annual addition of 1500MW of solar energy. The State plans to develop Agra, Allahabad and Moradabad as solar cities apart from investing in biomass energy sources. The State has Lucknow as the busiest airport in Uttar Pradesh, followed by Varanasi and has the fourth largest number of helipads in India. It has two major upcoming airport projects in Jewar, Greater Noida and Kushinagar to be developed to cater the rising passenger air traffic in the State. Uttar Pradesh has the 2th highest number of the MSMEs in the India that accounts to about 11.55% of MSME units in India. This is one of the fastest growing sectors in the State with the growth of exports rising in double digit figures for most items.
