Q. Tell us about your venture, Voylla. How did you get passionate about the jewellery industry?

A. It began in America, when I was besieged by requests from my colleagues and peers at Carnegie Mellon University and Amazon, to bring ethnic jewellery back as gifts from India. I realised that the jewellery market in India was fragmented. I decided to create a platform for skilled craftsmen and talented designers to showcase their talent in the world of jewellery by emphasising on high quality and innovative designs.

Q. What motivated you to incorporate traditional arts and crafts in your contemporary jewellery designs?

A. I believe we have only managed to skim the surface when it comes to incorporating traditional art and crafts into modern fashion jewellery. Even though we have covered several regions and styles and dug into history as well to create our collections, our strength is our design sensibility that creates contemporary pieces with traditional notes. That is what makes our jewellery special.

Q. What are your hobbies?

A. I am a fitness buff and therefore I spend a lot of time at the gym. I love swimming and I am also fond of bikes.

Q. According to you, which are the must-have pieces of jewellery?

A. For women, a pair of earrings is must. Statement piece for the evenings or special occasions. A more functional but stylish one for a day at work. For men, a ring is must. Choose one that goes with your day at work or at leisure.

Q. What is your motto?

A. My motto is to follow my dreams, and work hard to achieve them. I think staying disciplined is the key to success.
