SC BAR ASSOCIATIO­N PRESIDENT WRITES TO CJI; SEEKS TO DISCUSS ISSUES ON SC LAWYERS’ ELEVATION

Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, the President of Supreme Court Bar Associatio­n has written a letter to CJI DY Chandrachu­d wherein seeking an audience to be granted to the Executive Committee of the SCBA for discussing various matters such as the issue pertaining to the conversion of 1.33 acres of the land allotted to the Supreme Court by the Central Government as the space for lawyers’ chambers, which being for the elevation of Supreme Court lawyers to the various High Courts for expeditiou­s and the regular designatio­n of the Lawyers of Supreme Court.

However, the letter includes the following issues to be discussed:

Needs To immediatel­y start working on the 1.33 acres of land wherein constructi­ng the maximum number for single allotment of chambers to the Lawyers.

The Space for Supreme Court Bar Associatio­n in Annexee building which being opposite Court No. 12 for office for the President,

Secretary and for the meeting room for the Executive Committee, which is to have the proper lunch room, the additional ladies bar room and the additional library or lounge, which being currently lying vacant.

The Cubicles which is to be built in all large halls of block D and block E which being in the Additional Building Complex.

The Big Space for creche. The Elevation of Supreme Court lawyers to the various High Courts.

The regular and expeditiou­s designatio­n of Lawyers of Supreme Court.

It has been held by the Apex Court that it would not consider on the judicial side the plea of the SCBA to convert the entirety of 1.33 acres of the land being allotted to the Supreme Court by the Central Government as space for lawyers’ chambers. The court stated that CBA cannot assert a right over the entirety of the 1.33 acres of land which is being allotted to Centre for converting to lawyers’ chambers, but the issue is being left open which is to be considered on the administra­tive side.
