SC dismisses petition seeking guidelines to protect research works from plagiarism

The Supreme Court in the case Ankur Bhaker vs Union of India observed and has dismissed the plea seeking for the protection of research done by scholars in the form of thesis for avoiding its misuse or plagiarism.

The bench comprising of Justice KM Joseph and Justice BV Nagarathna observed and has dismissed the petition while hearing the party in person noting that it was not convinced.

The court observed that after hearing the petitioner in person, this court is not convinced that the petitioner made out a case for interferen­ce. In the present case, the petitioner who being a PH.D holder in criminal psychology, who being also claimed to have invented a database in blockchain technology, wherein seeking for directing the Union Government to frame guidelines for protection of research being done by the scholars in thesis so that it is not being misused.

Therefore, the bench also questioned him on the lack of clarity and grounds in the petition. The court stated that from where you get all these ideas and what are the grounds? No Clarity is given by you at all…. What is this? Without any detail, this court cannot be helping you. Further, the petitioner in the case tried to answer the Court. The petitioner stated, I had undertaken research, My research being behind the death of Princess Diana. The petitioner submitted that to my teachers. My teacher now can change my name, place his own name and can publish it. Then no one is going to believe me. Accordingl­y, the court dismissed the plea and has refused to entertain the submission­s.
