Naval Group and Fin­cantieri pro­pose FREMM to Canada

The Gov­ern­ment of Canada has de­clared its in­ten­tion to ac­quire an ex­ist­ing and proven NATO war­ship de­sign that could be read­ily mod­i­fied to meet the Royal Cana­dian Navy re­quire­ments. French and Ital­ian world-class ship­builders Naval Group and Fin­cantieri, with the strong sup­port of both French and Ital­ian gov­ern­ments, will com­bine their ex­per­tise and present to the Gov­ern­ment of Canada an “off-the-shelf”, sea-proven so­lu­tion based on the FREMM fri­gate de­sign for the sup­ply of 15 sur­face com­bat­ant ships to the Royal Cana­dian Navy.

Atlas Elek­tronik Fin­land Oy has com­pleted the Mid- Life Up­grade pro­gramme for three Pan­sio class in­shore minelay­ers of the Finnish De­fence Forces with de­liv­ery of the third and fi­nal up­graded ship, Py­häranta, to the Finnish De­fence Forces Lo­gis­tics Com­mand. The first ship, Pan­sio, was de­liv­ered in Oc­to­ber 2016 and the sec­ond, Porkkala, in May 2017. The con­tract for the mid-life up­grade was signed in May 2015. Dur­ing the com­pe­ti­tion phase for the Pan­sio class mid-life up­grade, Atlas Elek­tronik Fin­land strength­ened its ca­pa­bil­i­ties and broad­ened its com­pe­ten­cies for the prime con­trac­tor role. The essen­tial work has been done at the ship­yard, Uu­denkaupung­inTyövene Oy, in a co­op­er­a­tive team con­sist­ing of Atlas Elek­tronik Fin­land, ship­yard, sys­tem sup­pli­ers and sub-con­trac­tors, cus­tomer and end-user rep­re­sen­ta­tives..
