Integration of BrahMos on Su-30MKI
Following the launch of a BrahMos ALCM missile from a modified Su-30MKI (SB-200) on 22 November 2017, it is reported that work has begun to modify a total of 42 such aircraft, the programme to be completed by 2020. HAL’s Nasik Division will be carrying out the structural modifications to integrate the 2.5 tonne missile, which involves mechanical, electrical and software modifications. The Mach 3 BrahMos has a range of 290km, which range can reportedly be extended upto 400 kms with certain technical restrictions lifted after India became a full member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) in 2016.
