‘Challenges in the Indian industry are opportunit­ies for Comptel’

How many service providers are currently using Comptel’s solutions and in which specific domain?

Currently in India, Comptel’s solutions are deployed for provisioni­ng and activation, real-time mediation, online data charging, policy charging and rule function (PCRF), etc, with 5 operators for various LOBS including GSM, 3G, CDMA, wireline, DSL, and DTH. Comptel has been working with the Indian operators since mid-’90s. Today, Comptel works with most of the major Indian operators including airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, and Tata Teleservic­es. By virtue of working with these major operators, Comptel works for over 500 mn subscriber­s which brings our market share to 58% in the Indian market.

What solutions are you providing for the fixed and broadband service providers? Who are your clients?

Comptel offers dynamic operation support system solutions. Certain examples for solutions in fixed and broadband service providers offered by Comptel are service fulfillmen­t, order management, number and IP address management, service activation, device discovery and activation, service and network inventory, rating and charging of services, bandwidth management, and product catalog. Comptel serves around 280 plus customers across the globe in 85 countries viz, airtel, Tata Teleservic­es, Reliance, Deutsche Telecom, NBN Co, Telecom Namibia, Elisa, Saudi Telecom Group (STC), Qtel, Telenor, etc.

The Indian market is predominan­tly a prepaid market. How are Comptel’s solutions leveraging this?

As mentioned earlier, Comptel’s platforms and solutions are technology agnostic, highly scalable, and robust solutions. In India we are serving more than 500 mn customers, and a majority of them are prepaid customers. The sheer volumes combined with innovative services offered by the dynamic Indian telecom industry have kept us on our toes to keep up with the new challenges and innovation­s and continuous­ly improvise our solutions to cater to the demands of the industry. We invest almost 20% of our revenues in R&D annually to come up with better products and solutions for the industry.

What challenges is your company facing with respect to the prepaid market of India, revenue leakage, etc?

Since Comptel’s platforms are technology agnostic, hence challenges in the Indian industry are actually opportunit­ies for Comptel. Comptel’s solution portfolio addresses revenue assurance in the OSS/BSS layer and provides various solutions for online charging, bill shock, rule based PCRF, etc. These are various solutions that address the challenges posed by the huge prepaid Indian market and help telecom service providers to offer better services quickly to their customers who are a major source of revenue for them.
