Astay in Bali could never be considered complete without at least one spa visit, but while there are many choices on the island, not all spas are created equal. Standing tall among the crowd with a dedication to wellbeing is SOSPA at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort.

Welcoming both in-house and outside guests, SOSPA offers a sensory banquet alongside a dazzling menu of spa treatments that are delivered in its beautiful onsite sanctuary.

This spacious oasis has a captivating décor with towering lacy, carved pale wooden panelling creating intimate areas within the relaxation area, trickling water, a shimmering reflective pool, beautifully textured dark rattan wall panels and copper highlights and white orchids that give a rich ambience.

The gentle fragrance of essential oils hangs in the air and, as you sip

your welcome drink, the enchanting surroundings seduce you into relaxation.

The spa menu concept has been inspired by another Sofitel passion – gastronomy, with the treatments divided into 30-minute starters, 90-minute mains and 30-minute desserts, leaving guests free to pick and choose to create a banquet to suit their own appetite.

The starters include some of those essential extras that make a massage go even more smoothly, like a head and shoulder massage, back relief, body wraps and the totally exquisite hydrotherapy jet floral jacuzzi.

Having tickled your palate, for a full feast, pick one of the plethora of mains that include facials for him and her to rehydrate, treat dark circles under the eyes and have a youth-boosting effect, or one of the range of body massages from those that remodel your silhouette, to a Chinese hot stones massage, mother-tobe massage or one that simply hydrates and nourishes your skin while unravelling those knots in your muscles.

Desserts provide an extra deliciousness for luminous eyes, bust and décolleté beauty, foot massage and exfoliation. So if one treatment isn't enough – and seriously, when is it? – go ahead and mix and match your courses.

There are eight spa rooms named after healing gems, each giving guests a changing area and shower that leads into a dramatic treatment room. This enormously high space has the plush and extremely comfortable massage bed firmly centre stage ensconced within a set of overlapping woven rattan panels that gently fit together to resemble the inside of an intricate temple bell. The dark colours in the room are offset by a long traditional woven batik wall hanging and a white orchid.

Your treatment starts with your feet being bathed in a copper bowl, scrubbed and cleaned, before you move to the treatment bed. As you sink into the comfort, your skilled massage therapist sounds a Tibetan singing bowl to align your senses and signal the start of your session. Whatever your choice, the excellent quality of the oils, lotions and potions and the years of experience and training behind the therapists ensure that by the time you get up from the bed, your skin will be glowing, your muscles eased and your mind will be in perfect harmony.

Additional services include manicures and pedicures along with associated nail and foot treatments, waxing, inroom massages and indulgence bath rituals, as well as the total holiday treat of a massage by the beach in a wooden Balinese pavilion. So whether you are in Bali on holiday or business, head to SOSPA for some ultimate pampering.
