“WHERE IT'S ALWAYS YESTERDAY ONCE MORE.”
Known for its excellent food and impressive service, Warong Shanghai Blue 1920 was established in memory of Siti Djaenab who, in 1920, opened a simple food stall with the help of her husband, Chan Mo Sang, in Sunda Kelapa. What started as a humble hawker business grew into a famous jazz and tea house that developed into one of the hippest venues in Batavia and became a home away from home for sailors. Dining in this restaurant is nostalgic. The décor, furnishings, sights and sounds, the smell of the food and, of course, the wonderful live jazz will whisk you back to days when life appeared simpler and everyone seemed younger. The food is like the environment, a fusion of Chinese, Betawi and international influences, where dishes like Shanghai Blue Red Chicken, a recipe from Chang Mo Sang’s very own mother, is popular, as is its famous dim sum.
