WATCH ANATOMY 02
THE FACE OF A WATCH HAS THESE ELEMENTS:
1 CASE is a container that protects the dial and the timekeeping mechanism inside. The basic material is stainless steel, or simply shortened as steel by most watch brands.
2 CROWN is a rotatable knob outside the case (normally placed at 3 o’clock) to adjust the time. It is necessary to keep the crown in a locked position when underwater.
3 DIAL typically showcases the time: hours and minutes, along with other features. The hour markers are usually in Arabic or Roman numerals, or simply batons.
4 FLANGE is the outermost rim of a dial. It can accommodate a tachymeter, which helps measure things like distance or velocity.
5 HANDS are indicators of time, often shaped like long batons hanging from the central axis and pointing at the respective hours, minutes or seconds.
