DA MAN

The Year of refocus

-

lot of people agree that 2016 was kind of a downer. It was a year full of unexpected twists of events—most of them of the unpleasant kind—and one plagued by economic slowdown. So, as we’re finally stepping into the second month of the new year, we felt the need to do better in 2017 and beyond.

In essence, refocusing is something that we’ve been concentrating on. For starters, we’ve drastically updated our website (daman.co.id) with a new layout and new format. The site will now focus on our four main editorial pillars: celebrities, fashion, grooming and watches. We’ve also improved the way you experience our website on smartphones and tablets, so feel free to experiment and see just how easy it is to check out what’s new and what’s in.

This year also marks a major milestone for DA MAN as we celebrate our tenth anniversary. Being ten years young gives us all the more reason to make this issue feel brand new with a lineup of young actors and actresses who will light up the showbiz world in Hollywood and right here in Indonesia.

Naturally, we needed the perfect cover boy to capture this new spirit—and we found him. Now, Brenton Thwaites has already made quite a name for himself with his performances in, say, “Oculus” and “Maleficent.” This year, however, he’s headed to the big leagues as one of the leads in the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” along with starring roles in a slew of other exciting titles. As an added bonus, I discovered that he was quite a fashion-savvy gentleman as well when we met at the Louis Vuitton show during Paris Men’s Fashion Week last January.

On another note, DA MAN is also a media partner for the upcoming “Jakarta Undercover” movie, which features prominent Indonesian thespians the likes of Oka Antara, Baim Wong and Ganindra Bimo—all of whom you can read about in the Feature section. Film and fashion have always been a big part of DA MAN, and we’ll continue to pick the very best from both fields, and highlight the most promising, hot young talents, for the rest of the year.

Until then, let’s welcome spring in high spirits.
