Introduce yourself to the newest chapter of Swiss luxury watches: the Modular System

-

When TAG Heuer officially launched the Connected watch early 2016, many were still skeptical on how it would fare. The Swiss watch industry is notably traditional, with parts of it still retaining the same technology used decades and decades ago. And this, interestingly, is a tradition that TAG Heuer, despite being one of the oldest Swiss brands, isn’t afraid to expand.

The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is now carving out a new chapter where individual personalization doesn’t wait for someone from a store to do it for you. While many brands are making a song and dance about their interchangeable straps, the modular system at TAG Heuer allows one to change the lugs and straps down to the buckle. With those three parts ready to be switched in and out according to one’s mood, well, what could go against this new luxury game?

And if you think that’s not enough, you can always splurge a little by getting a mechanical watch head, such as the three-hand movement caliber 5, or the limited edition Carrera Heuer-02T instead. That would really surprise those who think you can only get one watch when you buy one.

Back to the Connected watch itself, it still uses Google’s Android Wear 2.0 operating system, but with quite a few improvements, including the addition of TAG Heuer’s new companion app. Although it’s relatively hightech, the watchcase, which is topped by an AMOLED screen, still allows for water resistance up to 50 meters. Last but not least, it is certified Swiss made, too. On the marketing side, the brand has decided to go with the trending “see now, buy now” approach, so the Connected Modular 45 is already available since it was first announced back in April.
