A Taste of Home
There’s a new restaurant in town which, interestingly, offers a delectable spread of old-school favorites. Roemah Toean Pe ( Jl.KemangRaya No.2,Jakarta; +62217183417) features an eclectic menu based on the favorite flavors of the man behind it, Mr. Patrick Widjaja—who, by the way, is also behind Die Stube. There’s a classic take on the ever-popular fu yung hai, roast pigeon which is becoming increasingly hard to find in Jakarta, frog legs and many more dishes from the city’s rich Chinese-Indonesian cultural heritage along with a touch of Dutch cooking. All this is then wrapped in a quaint interior reminiscent of Jakarta’s old town for a truly nostalgic dining experience.
