Something Old, Something New

Virgil Abloh keeps creating based on the needs of the era. To that end, the designer presents Louis Vuitton’s The New Classic collection featuring the maison’s leather pieces for men. Most notably, the collection includes four bags that basically reinvent the concept of leather goods by embracing the bodies, movements and attitudes of modern masculinity.

The New Classics is Abloh’s response to a range of unanswered questions regarding fashion items of the era. The new leather pieces also include three iconic Louis Vuitton bags taken from the brand’s archives that have been reworked and redesigned. First of the three bags is The Chic Steamer, which was originally created in 1901 and has been reinterpreted as a new business bag that is elegant, fashionable and functional. The second is The Soft Trunk. A shining example of Louis Vuitton’s trunk-making tradition, this bag has retained a number of the maison’s historic signature details like its metallic finishes and has now been transformed into a supple leather version that hugs the body. The third bag is the Pochetta Volga, which can hold up to three mobile phones. Furthermore, it has a detachable chain handle allowing it to be used either as a small bag or as a fashionable wallet. Lastly, we have one more bag with a new signature, dubbed as Riveted Flowers.

These new leather pieces have been released as part of the Monogram Eclipse Range and will be included in all of Louis Vuitton’s collections by Virgil Abloh from this season onwards.
