AN ODE TO THE SENSES

CRAFTED WITH THE MOST DISCERNING CONNOISSEUR IN MIND, THE MACALLAN 72 YEARS OLD IN LALIQUE IS A SENSORY EXPERIENCE THAT DELIGHTS THE EYE AS WELL AS THE PALATE

Unboxing a limited-edition luxury product definitely a singular experience where every step, every moment becomes a delight. This is especially true when you are presented with layers upon layers of masterful creations that you can admire individually before finally meeting the actual pièce de résistance within. Such is definitely the case with The Macallan 72 Years Old in Lalique.

The sensory journey to experience The Macallan 72 Years Old in Lalique begins with its custommade presentation case. The aesthetics of the box is inspired by the architectural marvel that is the brand’s new Distillery and Visitor Experience at Speyside in the highlands of Scotland. Furthermore, the case is designed by Burgess Studio— which has previously collaborated with the brand for The Masters of Photography 1946 Edition and The Masters of Photography VII—and is then handcrafted by master craftsmen at N.E.J. Stevenson. This particular furniture-maker, by the way, holds a Royal Warrant, which means that it has been appointed by and creates pieces for Britain’s royal household.

Inside the box, you will find a magnificent decanter, created by none other than Lalique, the world-renowned French glassmaker with a history of creating unrivaled glass art pieces stretching all the way back to 1888. Much like the case, the decanter is also inspired by The Macallan’s new Distillery, particularly its unique roof, whose clean lines and natural curves has now been immaculately depicted in crystal.

And finally, you get to the actual spirits. This particular whisky began its journey to maturation in the late 1940s. It was an age of optimism when— following the end of World War II—people were once again passionate for innovation and reinvention. If you’ve ever tried a 12-year-old single malt and found it enjoyable, then noticed how an 18-yearold has a noticeably more mature flavor, imagine what a 72-year-old whisky will taste.

To give you an inkling of what you’re in for, The Macallan 72 Year Old opens with an aroma of delicate peat followed by aged oak smoke. Citrus and green apples backed by vanilla and raisin comes next, with a touch of ginger. As you take your first sip, the delicate notes of peat smoke combines with soft vanilla and a surprisingly sweet oak smoke.

Words, however, can only convey so much, as the full marvel of The Macallan 72 Year Old is truly something that can only be experienced. The Macallan 72 Year Old in its decanter by Lalique
