When you think of it, one of the most ridiculous aspects of video games that people take for granted is the masses of NPCs—non player characters—who remain unfazed by all the action happening around them. In “Free Guy,” one of those NPCs, who is played by Ryan Reynolds and is known simply as Guy, suddenly becomes aware that he’s in a video game. Now that Guy is free, the way is clear for him to be the hero that will save the digital world he lives in.
