TAKING THE SHOT

Last year, DAMAN collaborated for the first time with OPPO to create a fashion spread—a proper, professional fashion photoshoot—shot entirely with a smartphone camera. We used the then brand new OPPO Reno 10x Zoom. Naturally, we had our concerns as the project began in earnest, but the resulting images were simply incredible. If no one told you that it was shot using a phone, you wouldn’t have guessed it was.

This year, OPPO raised the stakes again with the OPPO Reno4 Pro. And we upped our game as well by collaborating not for just for a fashion shoot, but also for the cover of this very issue, featuring another friend of the magazine, the one and only Arifin Putra. The result, I’m proud to say, speaks for itself. This collaboration also serves to highlight how technology and traditional media can—and will—co-exist in the future.

That same message about being hopeful for the future permeates our interviews in this issue as well. Arifin Putra, for one, shared about discovering how it’s all about “mind over matter.” We’ve also touched based once again with Wilson Cruz of “Star Trek: Discovery” fame, Jefri Nichol in a special photo shoot with Givenchy, while also chatting with rising star Benjamin Levy Aguilar and David Castañeda from hit Netflix series “The Umbrella Academy.” This is certainly an issue worth poring over, even if I do say so myself.
