CORNER HOUSE
Located within the expansive and verdant Singapore Botanic Gardens, near the Nassim Gate Entrance off Tyersall Road, the one Michelinstarred Corner House is a wonderful old twolevel property repurposed as a celebration of E.J.H. Corner, the former Assistant Director of the Singapore Botanic Gardens who lived there for 13 years during his long tenure. Helmed by the acclaimed and multiawarding winning Jason Tan, the former executive chef at Sky on 57, a delightful menu has been built around GastroBotanica, a concept that emphasises refinement and quality and gives equivalent weight to both proteins and the botanical elements. To deliver such a bold concept Tan uses only the best produce which, when allied to his vision and talent, has resulted in some truly spectular dishes presented in a way that the garnishing is as much of a highlight as the main components.
With set menus and the Corner House Degustation backed by what must be one of the most impressive wine lists in the city, there are endless culinary highlights including oignon doux des Cevennes – onion done four ways, the Pear William with red wine, chocolate, hazelnut praline and Indonesian long pepper, and the New Zealand blue cod crispy scales.
For dining there are a variety of individual spaces including The Verandah, with its delightful old-world charm and elegance, The Claret Corner, the restaurant’s sophisticated wine cellar, which can be divided off to accommodate eight people, or for romance and intimacy The Whispering Corner, a glazed verandah found on the second level.
