Indonesia Design - Defining Luxury
Emphasising the Beauty of Local Culture
WHAT Viro’s collaboration with Anneke Prasyanti and Dani Hermawan WHEN 28 November7 December 2019 WHERE Kebun Ide Restaurant
Viro, one of Indonesia’s biggest eco-faux producers, collaborated with architects Anneke Prasyanti from bhumi aras hospitality+design and Dani Hermawan from Formologix, to make an art installation called “Anata Rupa”. It combined Lombok’s traditional weaving method with a contemporary design of a non-euclidean geometric shape. The eco-faux materials used were painted in several traditional Indonesian colours, such as turquoise and blue of Bajo, red and black of the Bataknese, brown of the Sumbanese ikat, and yellow of the Dayak.
Placed at Kebun Ide restaurant’s yard, the installation did not only serve an aesthetic purpose, but it was also interactive. Children loved climbing it and grown-ups took self-portraits with it. It was created as a part of Bintaro Design District, which embodied the theme of “inclusivity” very nicely.
