Couturier Guo Pei and jeweller Chopard embark on a dreamy journey across Asia in their latest collaboration, the Silk Road Collection
Tsilver train on an A-line ball gown glided gracefully across the runway at Paris’s prestigious Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild. With a big, bubbly bow tied tidily on the waist, Guo Pei successfully presented her fourth Couture Collection. Pear-shaped emeralds dripping brilliant-cut diamonds and Paraiba tourmalines slithered down its sheer plunging neckline lightly in a vibrant flow. Two more sets of this rarely seen combination by Chopard, especially between emeralds and tourmalines, swayed slowly from dainty lobes.
Gentle ruffles bloom in white folds descending in swirls with a trail behind, as well as in front, just above the knees, providing a pure canvas for Guo Pei and Chopard to tango together in a modern yet retrospective throwback to an era when haute couture reigned. In refreshing harmony, a structured, strapless bodice topped the dress with silvery embroidery, and dainty diamond lacework collared the whole ensemble in a Peter-pan shape with a detachable emerald in the centre.
Giving a nod to classic floral patterns, another shared passion between the two, Guo Pei expertly needled exquisite gold embroidery framing feminine collarbones on a lustrous blue-green, tealength dress. Caroline hummed along to her tune by creating flower-shaped earrings stemmed in 18ct yellow-gold and titanium, plus an array of dazzling corollas from
chalcedonies, spessartine garnets, rubellites, pink sapphires, topazes, tourmalines and tsavorites gems.
Ever since a meeting in Cannes two years ago, Chopard Co-president and Creative Director Caroline Scheufele and Guo Pei have discovered their mutual passion in the arts. Thus, they set off on a long, tireless journey to create breathtakingly exceptional works achieved through fastidious perfection and sublime aspiration.
