The Macallan’s new distillery brings unique visitor experiences down to its contemporary Scotland-inspired architecture

Located in the stunningly beautiful Easter Elchies estate in Speyside in Scotland, where you can look up and see a sky so blue it looks like it is hand painted, the pristine new The Macallan distillery will be sure to excite all your senses to new heights. Visiting the distillery is a holiday both for your mind and your palate as you will be treated to a combination of stunning visuals and the very best of whiskies.

From its humble beginnings, the 190-yearold The Macallan has risen to become the leading international single malt in some of the world’s most significant Scotch whisky markets including the US, Taiwan, and Japan. So when it decided to create this new distillery, it chose the best setting as well as the best architect for the world-renowned brand.

It is the first distillery in the region to be designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and is estimated to have cost £140 million.

With the distillery also functioning as a unique visitor experience, the designer cut a striking piece of contemporary architecture into the slope of the land. It takes inspiration from ancient Scottish hills, thus maximising the beauty of the building while cleverly minimising the visual impact on the Speyside landscape, which has been classified as an area of great landscape value.

As Ken Grier, Creative Director of The Macallan, noted: “This is the beginning of a really exciting new chapter in the evolution of this wonderful brand that is The Macallan.”
