or decades, Italy has been home to a legendary tradition: the Mille Miglia motorsports race. It has seen its fair share of changes throughout the years to become the colourful celebration that it is now. Today, the Mille Miglia is a regular race with a very special stipulation: only vintage and classic cars produced no later than 1957 can be used. Combining tradition with innovation, elegance, and creativity with a backdrop of Italian architecture and mountainscapes, it is truly in a class of its own. For the past 30 years, Chopard has been a faithful sponsor and official timekeeper to this wonderful event. In celebration of this partnership, Chopard is presenting a brand-new addition to the Mille Miglia collection—the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Grigio Speciale.
Chopard first introduced the Mille Miglia collection in 2015. The collection is borne out of Chopard’s passion for classic racing. Sophisticated aesthetics and technical excellence come together to create timepieces that fans of horology and motorsports would be proud to own. The Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Grigio Speciale with its Rosso Corsa red, grey, and black detailing, oversized numerals evoking 1950s car dashboards, and its Cordura fabric strap, is the embodiment of all that the Chopard and Mille Miglia stand for.
The Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Grigio Speciale combines several shades of grey that will flood you with images of racing cars of yesteryear even at a glance. The 43mm shotblasted titanium case kicks off the range of greys making up the watch. The red accents on the case and dial exude an air of sportiness and the rush of adventure. The Rosso Corsa red on the tip of the seconds hand and the arrow-shaped Mille Miglia logo framing the date aperture provide a flamboyant contrast to all the intense grey. The dedicated power indicator is clearly inspired by car fuel gauges for easy reading. The black Super-luminova— painted oversized 6 and 12 numerals inspired by classic car dashboards—follow the same principle.
The short, streamlined lugs are designed to mould to the curve of the wrist to perfection. An integrated strap made of Cordura, a high-performance fabric used for drivers’ race suits, further ensures optimal comfort for the wearer. The screw-in caseback provides water resistance of up to 100m, while the tinted crystal on the caseback, framed by a brightred gasket, provides fascinating glimpses of the Chopard movement, its prestigious finishing and its openworked oscillating weight.
