recise, reliable, robust, and functional, the Oyster Perpetual Gmt-master II allows travellers to tell the time in two different time zones simultaneously. The timepiece is the ultimate reference among watches with multiple time zones.
Presented in Oystersteel, the watch is made of an Oyster case and Jubilee bracelet with a bidirectional rotatable bezel and a 24-hour graduated two-colour Cerachrom insert in red and blue ceramic. It also comes in 18 ct Everose gold, along with a two-colour Cerachrom insert in brown and black ceramic.
Launched in 1955, the Oyster Perpetual Gmt-master bore witness to the rapid expansion of intercontinental travel in the latter part of the 20th century. In function as well as in name, the watch evokes travel across multiple time zones. In addition to conventional hour, minute, and second hands, which display the local time of the wearer’s location, the Gmt-master II features an arrow-tipped hand that circles the dial once every 24 hours along with the bidirectional rotatable bezel. When the bezel is in the neutral position with the triangle at 12 o’clock, the 24-hour hand displays the reference time, which can be read using the graduations on the bezel. This function enables the wearer to read the home time.
The bezel has been carefully articulated and produced to perfectly fulfill its functions. Rolex developed a bezel rotation system with a spring that allows the bezel to be turned crisply and securely in either direction with a positive click in each of the 24 different hour positions.
