WHAT WOMEN WANT
Diamonds, exquisite colours and more… It’s hard to resist TAG Heuer’s beautiful offerings for ladies this year
INEVITABLE THAT most watch brands focus much more on masculine aesthetics than feminine. Men and watches are as almost inseparable as ladies and designer bags (although the latter combo is almost like a conjoined twin). But many are evolving to incorporate touches of femininity in their design – and not just for ladies, but for men, too. Case in point: diamonds.
Diamonds Are For All
TAG Heuer exemplifies that approach in many collections for 2017. From the high-tech Connected watch to the tourbillon-equipped timepiece, each arrives with at least one diamond-set version.
At the top tier, the Swiss brand has the Carrera Heuer-02T (the italicized “T” stands for tourbillon) that’s now adorned with 68 sparkling baguette diamonds on the bezel. While the watch itself is groundbreaking in terms of pricing, being the most affordable COSC-certified tourbillon in the market last year, the new glitzy decoration somehow beats that purpose. Interestingly, the Heuer-02T remains at 45mm in diameter, with no mention or whatsoever on which gender wears it best.
Upping the ante of the wildly successful Connected watch is the brand’s Connected Modular 45. The “modular” term refers to the Lego-like construction of the watch elements. You can take off the lugs, the strap and even the buckle yourself in a matter of minutes, or even less. With that kind of extreme personalisation, the watch opens up a new category of timepieces in which everyone can customise their watches independently, no longer having to go to a boutique to change any part.
Once again, diamonds make an appearance in some of the premium lugs and buckles. Although a 45mm size (1mm smaller than last year’s) is rather large for ladies, this Connected watch seems fitting for a present to someone who loves cool gadgets - not to mention that it’s now officially certified “Swiss Made”.
The incredible versatility of the watch makes it even possible for one to have the watch head of the Heuer-02T instead of a Connected watch. That tourbillon watch head combination is currently limited to 1,000 pieces, with the last unit saved for an auction for the Make a Wish foundation.
The Price Is Right
If, despite all these, you’re still unconvinced of how aggressive TAG Heuer is in wooing the ladies, you may want to check the price tags. They are surprisingly more affordable than the most Swiss Made tickers (go to the official website for further info). In a way, you don’t need to sacrifice your secret list of new bags to covet when you get a TAG Heuer.
For a solid color pick, the Carrera Lady is a definite bet. Most selections only stick to one color (with varying shades between the strap and the dial), and all come with a 36mm case (versatile for day and night). Of course, the all-white option stands out from the crowd, featuring scintillating diamonds as the hour markers.
The new Link Lady collection, meanwhile, offers a sportier look owing to its stainless steel bracelet. Then again, the collection’s signature is none other than the double “S” shape of the bracelet links. Add to that the unique case portraying round and cushion form, the watch oozes an extra appeal of femininity with sleek dials made of pink or white mother-of-pearl or brushed blue sunray.
Timepieces For Heroines
Perhaps the most exciting piece for ladies is the quartz-powered Monaco watch. The 37mm size denotes that it’s unisex (although very feminine in terms of looks), and the dial choices are black, white and brown—the last is limited to 1,500 pieces only. What makes it special, however, is the fact that Halle Berry is going to wear one in the upcoming movie “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.” Finally, a cool timepiece for a heroine.
For a worthy counterpart to the classy-looking Monaco watch, TAG Heuer left it to Patrick Dempsey. The brand ambassador had massively shown his great interest for the Swiss watchmaking house by producing the newest campaign for the re-introduced Autavia collection. It’s another sporty watch whose DNA is shared between automotive and aviation.
There’s still more to discover should you want to see it all. This year, the ladies certainly don’t take a backseat with TAG Heuer.
