SACOOR BROTHERS

Portuguese pride

-

PORTUGAL IS NOT a country that boasts many global brands, but Sacoor Brothers is a notable exception. The Lisbon-based company has been expanding internationally since 2006, when it opened its first overseas store in Dubai. Today, more than half of the company’s 102 boutiques are to be found in 15 countries beyond Portugal, including Britain, Belgium, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait and Bahrain, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa.

To develop the Indonesia market, the Portuguese fashion lifestyle brand has partnered with PT Giordano Indonesia. They opened their first Sacoor Brothers store here at Pacific Place last December, followed by Plaza Senayan in April. The Pacific Place outlet is a 230-sqm flagship store, while the Plaza Senayan space is of 130 sqm.

Barbara Ventosa, the company’s Dubai-based Franchise Operations Manager, visited Jakarta for the opening of the Plaza Senayan. She said that the story of Sacoor Brothers goes back to 1989, when four young siblings – Malik, Salim, Rahimo and Moez Sacoor - decided “to create a fashion label based on the concepts of elegance, quality and sophistication.” They opened their first boutique at No. 127, Rua Pascoal de Melo, Lisbon.

In spite of approaches from big business groups, the brothers still own and manage the business themselves. “Sacoor Brothers is a 100 percent Portuguese label with the values of a family business that employs over 750 people worldwide,” says Ventosa. “The work and dedication of almost three decades has been recognised, as the label has won several awards.” She adds that family values play an important part in the brand’s DNA. “This is the main reason why the word ‘Brothers’ is still part of the name. Portuguese heritage is also a motive for pride and distinction for the company.”

The stores’ latest arrivals come from the Sacoor Brothers Spring/ Summer 2017 Collection, which has the theme of “Natural Pause”. Characterised by comfort and simplicity, Natural Pause features elements of minimalism dominated by neutral tones. Soft tones are evident in piquet polos and shorts. They are also to be seen discreetly in the classic suit collection, which features smooth fabrics with texture and sober tones. Minor details, such as the discreet pockets inside the jacket, create a classic look and a functional outfit. One of the highlights is the Travel Suit, comprised of wool-elastane. This offers travellers a comfortable, wrinkle-free option while they are on the road.

This season’s classic shoe collection is somewhat relaxed, featuring the suede loafer or the sport sneaker. Sacoor Brothers also presents a selection of accessories to complement each outfit, including wallets, belts, duffle bags and backpacks.

As for the women’s collection, the moods are delicate, romantic and subtle with soft colours and fabrics. There are blazers with distinct lapels for a vintage look and essential pencil dresses for a classic appearance. Keeping the importance of the female elegance and form, while allowing for lightness of movement, all parts of this collection are adorned with “almost imperceptible details that enhance the femininity of the woman”. Polos, sweaters and t-shirts offer dainty pockets and a wider fitting for a relaxed look.

Quality is important to Sacoor Brothers. Ventosa points out that the company’s classic men’s shoes are handcrafted in Portugal using the Goodyear production system. Invented in the 19th century, this is a timeconsuming process by contemporary standards. “Our shoes have the best construction quality, giving them not only quality but also durability,” she explains.

She adds that the benefits offered by the company’s Sacoor Club include complimentary alteration, usually done in the shop by a professional tailor. The majority of our shops have tailors available to help you and to make each item something unique, adjusted perfectly for you,” says Ventosa.
