THE END OF SUMMER is around the corner, but there are still ways to celebrate the season’s neverending excitement in a stylish and elegant manner. The talented design team at Haim Home, led by 22-year-old Adeline Kurniadi, captured the season’s spirit beautifully by creating an elegant table setting with the theme of “Summer Solstice” for Prestige at the company’s showroom at Ratu Plaza on Sudirman, central Jakarta.

Gold dominates the setting, which is complemented by elements of white and a few touches of blue and yellow “Gold hues demonstrate the peak of summer,” explains Adeline. “The concept talks about the excitement of summer, while also celebrating the end of the season. That’s why we also incorporate products with warm undertones to represent the beginning of autumn.”

The result is a table setting full of porcelain and gold-coloured statement pieces, including tableware and decorative ornaments. The gorgeously lit lantern serves as the table’s centrepiece.

Most of the products are by Michael Aram, a renowned American metal-ware and home accessories designer. For the tableware, Adeline used plates from Aram’s Hammertone and Palm collection, along with rimmed bowls from the Goldsmith collection. These are paired with sets of gold flatware from the designer’s Molten collection and wine glasses from the Gotham collection.

Bouquets of white and blue hydrangea, encased in a large coral vase from the Ocean collection, also add volume to the overall look. Addition of decorative ornaments such as the red oak nut dish from the New Leaves collection along with the apple-shaped honey pot from the Fruit Collection accentuated the gold colour palette of the table. Aram’s limited edition of Wisdom Tree placed at both sides of the table also stands on its own as a charming sculptural object.

These arrangements are placed on top of the double pedestal dining table with a marble top from Haim Home’s own collection. Elevating the table to a grandeur feel is the presence of a Lampart lantern in a polished brass finish and with bevelled glass.

“This lantern creates a statement on its own,” says Adeline. “It’s bold and daring. You don’t want a flat table setting. If you want to put candles, level them out differently. This would create volume. I also like having fresh elements so I avoid including artificial fruits for props and would use real ones instead. The same goes for flowers. I think real elements tell a story better and it will make the whole appearance better and different.”

As the exclusive retailer of Michael Aram in the country, it is part of Adeline’s mission to further introduce his designs to the Indonesian market. What draws her in to Aram the most is the versatility of his works and how he uses nature as his main inspiration.

“He likes to use rock formations, leaves and the rippling effect of water in his designs,” she says. “The fact that everything is handmade also raises the value of his work even more. There’s always something in his collections that can match with any house style, and it’s this sense of versatility and easiness that really attracts me the most.”
