FLEXFORM 2017 COLLECTION

-

A PRESSING DESIRE for serene normality and quiet elegance is in the air. Also in the home, there is an intense yearning for essential things, comfort, harmony, because true elegance lies in the essential, which becomes a question of personality, confidence and bearing. This is the spirit of the times, which Flexform has intercepted and interpreted in its 2017 collection.

The latest collection have been conceived to convey the sense of a project where moderation and balance prevail, because today the real revolution implies being classical, or—more precisely—timeless. Showcased at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan, the new product proposals make few concessions to decoration and the superfluous. As tastes become more refined, aesthetic subtraction becomes a value. This leads to the brand’s notion of New Normal where normality becomes cool and simplicity becomes exceptional.

To enhance the new 2017 collection, which comprises sofas, armchairs, beds, tables and cabinets, the choice has gone to eco-friendly fabrics like linen, cotton, cashmere and velvets, also offered with materic and three-dimensional pattern-solutions in herringbone, striped and dotted ton sur ton motifs. Most of the colours in the collection are natural, in ranges of beige, grey, non-optical white, with accents of cool hues like forest green, midnight blue, powder blue and warm colours like amaranth and burgundy. The metals are mostly burnished or white. The wood is treated with matte finishes that bring out the natural grain. The constant application of marble tops for dining tables, small tables and cabinets underscore today’s marble-mania, almost as if this noble stone could embody the very essence of precious and natural value.

Highlight of the collection includes the Adda Sofa, designed by Antonio Citterio. It is a linear component sofa and armchair with a clean, contemporary look. The light structure welcomes

padded goosedown cushions bordered by thick relief stitching. The base in metal tubing is covered in leather or fabric, raised off the floor by metal feet. The soft armrest and back cushions slide over the structure, and are crossed by original lengthwise stitching that produces a gentle hollow on the surface (in fabric or leather): an interesting graphic sign that becomes the distinctive feature of the sofa.

Flexform also presented another collection of sofas, armchairs, tables, chairs and beds designed by Roberto Lazzeroni at the renowned furniture fair. Entitled Mood, the collection celebrates ten years of collaboration between the designer and the Italian furniture house. The products inhabit an area of taste between Deco and Retro, conserving the allure collection of the past, but inserting it in a contemporary context that makes the overall range up to date.

Green and blue is a frequent presence in the collection’s colour palette, interpreted in a thousand different shades featuring muted and intense green tones. These hues are ignited by vivid details in shades of red and aubergine. The woods are ash and dark ebony-stained oak with matte red accents while the metals are burnished in amber tones.

Signature piece of the collection goes to Marmaduke, a set of refined round, square and rectangular tables. The structure is in metal, with an original graphic touch on the leg. The tables are completed by marble tops in Pinta Verde – a white crystalline marble with gentle green shadings – and Verde Alpi, with a dark background and green veins. The family also includes a small desk with drawers on the same metal base as the tables, with an elegant top clad in cowhide.
