THE MACALLAN has unveiled Reflexion, the latest addition to the exclusive luxury range of its 1824 Masters Series. This latest release is a reflection of first fill sherry seasoned oak casks.

The single malt matured predominately in the smaller Spanish and American 250 litre hogshead casks, allowing for a greater surface area of wood to interact with the spirit, delivering more accentuated aromas and flavours. The depth of the colour and the complex flavour of Reflexion derive from the first fill casks selected by the brand’s Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno. Bold and full-bodied, Reflexion is a celebration of floral and vanilla notes, punctuated with fresh apples and apricots.

The decanter of Reflexion is inspired and sculpted with the brand’s iconic triangular shape. Its angular facets reflect the light to showcase the deep red mahogany hue of the whisky.

The blood orange Reflexion has the aroma of orange and citrus fruits. There is also a slight waxy notes which fades to fresh green apples, followed by the sweet stall: chocolate, thick fudge, boiled sweets, aniseed; caramel toffees almost overwhelm whilst white chocolate truffles are hidden. When it finally reaches the tongue, the taste of sweet oak arrives.

With an ABV of 43%, the Reflexion’s palate has a light citrus zest with new oak which gives way to a juicier sweetness of lemon and orange. There are also subtle notes of raisin, sultana and apple, with a hint of cinnamon and ginger. Boiled sweets add balance to a glimpse of toasted oak to give a medium and soft finish.

Named to commemorate the year the distillery house was established, the 1824 Masters Series celebrates whiskies that are increasingly darker and richer in flavour as one progresses up through the range. With each expression, the whisky complexity increases, as does its hue of natural colour, as well as the intricacy of the decanter.

The desire to celebrate the peerless spirit and the whiskies’ natural colours is evident in the exquisite style of each decanter, custom designed to better display each individual hue. Inspiration is also taken from the brand’s iconic triangle with light-reflecting angular facets and asymmetrical influences.
