Changes on the runway
TIMES ARE CHANGING in the fashion business. Some major houses, like Burberry and Marc Jacobs, have decided to combine their women’s and men’s shows. Others, such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors, are applying the “see- now, buynow” concept to their seasonal presentations. Meanwhile, some important fashion designers are questioning the whole notion of expensive runway shows.
How the industry will develop in future as online marketing becomes more prevalent is something Sebastian Gunawan is pondering. But for the time being, the maestro of Indonesian glamour is continuing to stage two shows each year – one for his couture line, another for his ready-to-wear label.
Didi Budiardjo is on the same page. After staging a three-part epic show to celebrate his 25 years in fashion two years ago, the quirky designer is preparing a collective show with the Indonesian Fashion Designer Council (IPMI) this year and a solo show next year.
Meanwhile, accessories designer Rinaldy A. Yunardi, whose A- list clients include the likes of Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry, will stage his first solo show in 12 years in December.
