Han Jayanata

Room to grow

-

“WHEN I WAS growing up, I knew that I would eventually take charge of the family business,” says 32-year-old Han Jayanata. “My parents have worked so hard to get to where we are today. I don’t want to disappoint them.”

Jayanata joined Jayanata Kosmetika Prima, a beauty clinic and cosmetics center in Surabaya, as General Manager in 2010. He is Managing Director today. He and his wife dr. Amelia Gonta Widjaja, an aesthetic doctor, have two children. Jayanata’s parents, dermatologist dr. Beng Jayanata and beauty therapist Mrs. Mina Karina, established the family business in 1984. The company describes itself as a “one-stop beauty solution” provider, offering “harmony in total beauty” in their aesthetic clinics. Its range of beauty brands includes Clarins, Cle de Peau, Elizabeth Arden, Guerlain, Valmont and many other professional and exclusive brands.

“The beauty industry is a dynamic environment that challenges me to be as creative as possible,” says Jayanata, who is a graduate of Middlesex University in London and Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island, USA. Earlier this year, he was appointed Honorary Consul of France in East Java.

“My father is my greatest mentor,” he goes on. “He studied medicine in Berlin, and his training there made him well-organised, structured and firm. He taught me to take risks and how to learn from my mistakes.”

“Another person I look up to is Didier Guillon, the founder of Valmont in Switzerland. He showed me how to be humble, to love yourself in spite of your flaws, and told me about the importance of having a well-balanced life with your loved ones. I know I still have much to learn and room to grow. For me, what’s important is to have unconditional support from the people I’m closest to. My wife, Amelia, is a phenomenal figure in my life. We make a great team.”
