Not guilty

WHEN ONE THINKS of desserts, cake or ice cream springs to mind. But 23-year-old Eugenie Patricia imagines silky puddings.

Indeed, her company, Puyo Desserts, which she launched in 2013 with her brother Adrian, has made a name for itself with the quality of its puddings and drinks. “There were no household names for silky puddings in the market, so Puyo had good potential from the start,” says Eugenie, a Prasetiya Mulya business school graduate.

“Our approach is to create guilt-free desserts. This is why all of our products are made with a perfect balance of lightness and sweetness.”

Eugenie and Adrian began by participating in food bazaars in order to gain attention for their business. She was only 19 at the time. “My brother and I work really well as a team. I couldn’t ask for a better business partner because we respect each other and we share the same vision.”

The company has opened more than 30 official outlets across Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Depok, Cibubur, Bekasi and Bandung.

As Creative Director, Eugenie creates new flavour campaigns and packaging designs, and organises marketing events. She also has a strong interest in the environment and good causes.

Puyo Desserts has launched Puyo Peduli Penyu, an initiative to protect sea turtles in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy, and Puyo Peduli Anak Indonesia, a campaign to build Taman Bacaan Pelangi’s library in Flores.

“Giving back is another form of success for our company,” says Eugenie. “We want to contribute as much as we can to the society. I always remind myself to keep learning. When it comes to this, there are no boundaries. I want to learn from anything, anyone and anywhere.”
