rihanna’s Savage X Fenty fall/winter 2019 presentation dominates the headlines for this fashion month. the show was presented during the New York Fashion Week and it smashed the construct of a traditional catwalk show apart. “the show is a multi-layered performance piece that rihanna herself called ‘fashion musical’”, wrote Vogue.

“the show plays out like a piece of theatre”, Willo Perron, a creative director who took charge of the creative tells Vogue. “It’s an entertainment with multiple layers, and how fashion should approach its messaging moving forward.”

the collection is presented with an all-star line-up of personalities, who embody the attitude and individuality of the lingerie brand, including model and actress cara Delevingne, transgender actress Laverne cox, model Slick Woods and rapper 21 Savage. When casting the models, the Fenty founder, rihanna herself says to Vogue, “I’m looking for unique characteristics of people who are not usually highlighted in the world of fashion and lingerie.”

the show also modelled size-inclusive underwear sets alongside the dancers who performed with singer Normani. others performers such as singer Halsey, Migos, DJ Khaled and big Sean punctuated the soundtrack with live performances, alongside an appearance from rihanna herself.

“Fashion, music, make-up and lingerie are all just different ways that I can express my creativity”, rihanna adds.
