THE BLOSSOMING TALE
INDONESIAN FASHION DESIGNER Julianto showcased his latest collection in New York on September 9. Titled ‘Il Fiore’, the collection was presented in Spring Studios, New York as part of the official New York Fashion Week (NYFW): The Shows for Spring/Summer 2020, sharing the same venue with big names such as Tadashi Shoji and Jeremy Scott.
“Il Fiore” means blossom in Italian. The collection was inspired by rose, which was also the logo of Mojuya, Julianto’s first fashion line. Il Fiore tells the blossoming tale of Julianto’s fashion designing career in the past eight years, and like a rose itself, Il Fiore blossoms fragrantly to embody elegant and feminine women. Dusty pink and moss green were brought to represent ethereal elements of rose petals and leaves; aside from Julianto’s classic black and white palettes.
The masterpiece among the twelve beautiful pieces of Il Fiore was a fully embellished sleeveless ivory gown, with low-back details. This graceful gown took 1,150 hours to be crafted delicately by hands and suitable for either modern day bride or a gala queen, and had been eyed by New York’s gallery curator Elizabeth Weiner to Indonesia’s celebrity Yuni Shara.
Julianto’s participation in NYFW: The Shows is aimed to introduce his creative vision to international stage and expand his business opportunities. “Why New York? Because, as one of the world’s fashion capitals, New York is the most vibrant”, says Julianto. “I am thrilled to challenge myself to be big in the big apple. And for several seasons in New York, Indonesian fashion has been vastly known for either its batik or Moslem wear”. Julianto also hopes his prestigious yet wearable eveningwear stands out among the status quo.
Julianto launched his earlier label, Mojuya, in 2011. In October 2017, just in time for his debut in Jakarta Fashion Week, Julianto decided to launch a more premium custom-made label under his own name. While in the same year he obtained his diploma in Fashion Stylist at Istituto di Moda Burgo in Milan, Italy, and mastered both fashion design and pattern making skills.
Julianto is most known for his unique bead works on neutral toned, rich fabrics. Eveningwear is his signature, all adorned in glamour embellishments and romantic embroideries which resemble the beautiful motifs of his upon inspiration; for example crater, mist and sands of Bromo Mountain for Spring/Summer 2018.
Always pouring his admiration in beauty into his works, Julianto wants to make each and every woman look beautiful and elegant in her own way. “I love beautiful women and I have clear vision that my dresses to be worn by Hollywood celebrities,” he shares, “If I can dress any Hollywood celebrity to wear my collection, I would pick Kendall Jenner immediately. She embodies Julianto’s lady because she can pull off many facets of women’s style; sexy, edgy, glamour, fierce and feminine. She also succeeds in both modeling and entertainment industry.”
Julianto’s collection is no stranger for Indonesian celebrities, many of them have worn his custom pieces. Bunga Jelitha, Miss Universe Indonesia 2017 was his latest muse for his ‘Stellar’ collection which was showcased in Plaza Indonesia.
