FAR PAVILIONS, HISTORIC HILLS
Two prestigious properties have opened in Kyoto, the famed cultural capital of Japan. Nestled in the forested region of Takagamine, the new Aman Kyoto occupies 80 acres at the foot of Hidari Daimonji mountain. It is to be found not far from the renowned Kinkaku-ji temple. Designed by Kerry Hill Architects, all furniture pieces are custom-designed and exclusive to the resort. The minimalist rooms take their inspiration from old Japanese inns, providing floor-to-ceiling views of the grounds. The resort consists of standalone pavilions Arrival, Living, Dining and Spa pavilions. The 26 rooms include four Guest Pavilions. Aman Kyoto has two restaurants. The Living Pavilion, for all-day dining, specialises in home-cooked Kyoto-style cuisine and afternoon tea, while Taka-an pays homage to traditional Japanese hospitality. Meanwhile, Park Hyatt Kyoto has opened in the historic Higashiyama hills. Located within walking distance of Unesco World Heritage sites, including Kiyomizu-dera temple, it offers views of the city and Yasaka Pagoda. The hotel’s 70 guestrooms include nine suites, with original artworks and Zen garden views. There are four culinary venues: Kyoto Bistro, for international and Japanese comfort food prepared with locally sourced, organic ingredients; The Living Room, for Japanese breakfast and afternoon tea; Yasaka for teppan-style cooking; and Kohaku for wines and spirits. The Spa at Park Hyatt Kyoto has a treatment suite for two and a private bath house. aman.com, hyatt.com
