EDITOR’S LETTER
You have no doubt read plenty of articles with titles like “Technology and the Death of Print Media”, and “Print Is Dead - Long Live Print”. I love that last headline because I’m sure there will always be a place for high-quality journalism and world-class magazines – just like the one you have in your hands.
To be sure, the market for print will never again be as big as it was before the smartphones came along. But the magazines that survive – and even flourish – in the years to come will be the ones that have created a special niche for themselves - as I believe Prestige has done in its first 15 years.
So, thank you for your loyal support for the magazine I launched with such high hopes and dreams in July 2004. We couldn’t have done it – we can’t continue to do it – without you.
Our final issue of 2019 contains one of our most popular annual features: The Prestige It List – packed, as always, with high-quality photography and revealing interviews.
Among the colourful personalities we meet this time round is Syahrini, our Celebrity of the Year. The delightful “Princess” tells us about the singing career she worked so hard to build, her whirlwind romance and marriage - and how she handles the haters.
Cindy Angelina, our Fashion Icon, gives us the lowdown on her dream closet, pet style peeves, a brand-new French F&B venture and an LA-induced obsession with sunglasses. The big news for Vannya Istarinda, our marathon-running, health-conscious It Girl for 2019, is that she is engaged and will get married next year.
The much-admired movie star Reza Rahadian reflects on the wisdom he gained from his conversations with former President B.J. Habibie, who died last September. Actress Laura Basuki outlines the challenges of playing Susi Susanti, a real-life sports legend, to great acclaim.
Mesty Ariotedjo discusses her philanthropic work and how she was motivated to treat the less fortunate by memories of working as an intern doctor in Flores. Stefano Lilipaly expresses his gratitude to his parents for encouraging him to become an Indonesian international soccer star.
Interviewing inspiring people and finding out what makes them tick is what Prestige is all about.
