Givenchy and Artistic Director Clare Waight Keller, the first female designer to take the helm at the French house, have parted ways. The womenswear show at Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020 in March saw the acclaimed designer’s last collection for the house. Waight Keller, 49, “is understood to have been at the end of her initial three-year contract with Givenchy,” said British Vogue. It added that Givenchy “will announce a new ‘creative organisation’ at a later date.” During her time at Givenchy, the British designer “introduced her signature boy-meets-girl formula” and “revived the couture business”, the magazine added. She brought Givenchy international prominence by dressing Meghan Markle for her royal wedding in 2018. “As the first woman to be the Artistic Director of this legendary maison, I feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to cherish its legacy and bring it a new life,” Waight Keller said. “Focusing on a world based on haute couture has been one of the highlights of my professional journey. I have shared so many incredible moments with the brilliant Givenchy ateliers and design teams: your exceptional talent and dedication will forever remain in my memories.”
