FIERMANSYAH AFIE PANIGORO
Game Changer
At 29 years old, Fiermansyah Afie Panigoro – or simply Afie – has scaled heights in the sporting arena that many only dream of. As the General Manager of Cricket Indonesia, he drives the sport’s popularity in a nation more familiar with football while stewarding women’s basketball in Depok to new victories.
Cricket Indonesia may be lesser-known domestically, but under Afie’s guidance, it clinched a gold, two silvers, and a bronze at the recent SEA Games in Cambodia. This led to an unprecedented invitation to the Presidential Palace. Afie also directs Depok Women’s Basketball, recently crowned district champions and, subsequently, first-time contenders at Pekan Olahraga Provinsi (PORPROV) in West Java.
The journey hasn’t been without hurdles. Afie cites recalibrating team perspectives to align with organisational goals as a significant challenge, addressed by revisiting the root motivations or the ‘why’ behind their efforts. This purpose-driven approach will serve him well as he prepares the women’s cricket team for their upcoming Asian Games debut against powerhouses like India and Pakistan.
Afie’s ambitions extend beyond sports; he has his sights on contributing to Indonesia’s evolving music industry. Yet, his core mission remains – to make a positive, impactful difference through sports and beyond. For Afie, success is not merely achieving goals but cherishing the journey and the micro-victories along the way, a philosophy that continues to inspire and effect meaningful change.
