Taking cues from its legendary trunks, Louis Vuitton presents the LV Fifty Five: a contemporary timepiece with a clean, reflective beauty born from the brand’s history 102
rom the late 19th Century onwards, Louis Vuitton offered its globetrotting clientele practical and robust trunks reputed for their quality and longevity—and, of course, all bearing the brand’s stylish hallmarks.
Since then, the contemporary look of these trunks has been updated with lightweight but extremely tough materials like copper, zinc and aluminium, making them both durable and incredibly easy to handle—qualities and looks that are now reflected in the brand’s new LV Fifty Five timepiece. With its delicate composition, the LV Fifty Five watch brings a new dimension to Louis Vuitton as well as to the world of luxury timepieces. The fluidity of the measured lines makes it uniquely distinctive, extremely fashionable and subtly seductive. Carrying several Louis Vuitton signatures inspired by the company’s history and heritage, the LV Fifty Five is made of evocative elements and remarkable contours. The most significant echoes of the famous suitcases are the two metal plaques riveted and engraved with the name of Louis Vuitton—a reinterpretation of the plaques on the locks of the trademark trunks. Louis Vuitton’s iconic signature can be found on the dial of each of the LV Fifty Five timepieces. The centre is satin-brushed with a sunburst motif, while the rim features circular satin brushing. The dial is composed of two pieces with a convex circular dial in relief on which the hour markers are positioned. These are in the form of a V at every quarter and an LV signature at 12 o’clock, right at the centre and blending into the disc. The LV Fifty Five comes in three different movements: the small, rather feminine model, which is 31mm in diameter and which indicates the hours and minutes. It is fitted with the ETA 256.031 quartz movement known for its extreme reliability and everyday ease of use. Louis Vuitton uses its own Veau Cachemire leather for this model. Meanwhile, the medium model, also made from Veau Cachemire leather, is resolutely unisex with its 36mm diameter and an ETA 2892 self-winding mechanical movement. The largest model, with an ETA 2893 self-winding mechanical movement, measures 41mm in diameter and is made of Louis Vuitton’s Taurillon leather. All three models are available in a chic pink shade, refined grey or a masculine black. Apart from its leather features, the LV Fifty Five collection is also presented with a comfortable steel bracelet. Its exclusive mesh is a subtle reference to the curves of the handles of the brand’s trunks. All in all, the subtle and sophisticated LV Fifty Five watch is a perfect travelling companion, oozing discreet elegance and a perpetual source of inspiration.
