Living Legacy
Fendi celebrates its 90th anniversary with a luxurious book titled ‘Fendi Roma’, which is now available in boutiques and top bookshops
1926 in Rome, a tale told in the “Rome: Eternal Inspiration” opening chapter of the brand’s new book, Fendi Roma, which has been published to celebrate the brand’s 90th anniversary. In that year, Edoardo and Adele Fendi opened a small fur and leather workshop and boutique. Daring creativity, femininity, cinematic inspiration, innovative techniques, timeless craftsmanship and a focus on the future are encapsulated in four other expansive chapters.
The chapters, in order, are entitled: “Creativity: Experimentation and Innovation”, “Femininity: A Fashionable Force”, “Ieri Oggi Domani”—which means “yesterday, today and tomorrow”—and “A Family Affair”. Each chapter tells the story of Fendi’s living and vivid history of tradition and innovation, luxury identity, and its close links with Rome.
This link to Rome’s many pasts is possible because the brand was created on the banks of Tiber River and sank its roots into the artistic and fertile soil of Rome. It is still based there despite its international success. Fendi’s artistic concepts ever since are best shown through Karl Lagerfeld’s direction, which has left an indelible mark on the Maison’s history as told in the book, as head designer and creative director until today.
In the book, modern perspectives convey Fendi’s journey to becoming a global luxury house through 300 archived photographs and illustrations spread over 272 pages. Measuring 28cm by 35cm, this black canvas book is closed by a chronological timeline to sum up Fendi’s most important steps and successes. And lastly, for collectors to treasure this precious hardcover, publisher Assouline provides a multicolour slipcase box to be used as protection.
