away from Jakarta thanks to Garuda Indonesia’s direct flights linking the two metropolit­an centres. “This will enhance trade relations,” said the British Ambassador Moazzam Malik. National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia launched a direct flight connecting Jakarta and London with an inaugural on October 31 at Soekarno-hatta Internatio­nal Airport attended by, among others, HE Moazzam Malik and Garuda Indonesia President Director Pahala Nugraha Mansury.

“With this venture, Garuda Indonesia becomes the only airline that [offers] non-stop, fast, convenient and efficient flights connecting Indonesia to the UK and Europe,” said Mr Pahala. Ambassador Malik appreciate­d the bold step taken by Garuda. “It will enhance tourism and the economy as well as strengthen ties between the two countries.”

The 15-hour direct flight will depart Jakarta on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft that will serve the route have a capacity of 314 seats, with eight for first class, 38 for business class and 268 for economy class.
