The Art of Fusion

Hublot celebrates a philosophy that sees creativity fused with technology and nature to constantly evolve and reinvent the world of luxury horology

innovation have seen Hublot break conventions and create new trends. Today, even as Hublot continues to push technological and engineering boundaries, a philosophy deeply rooted in Hublot’s DNA since its founding, still shines through: “The art of fusion”. The phrase has come to be the very foundation of Hublot’s DNA and also its motto. It guides all actions, sparks innovations, and develops lasting partnerships. The phrase embodies the subtle connection between a past ingrained with traditions, and a future nourished by visionary ideas. Hublot’s partners and ambassadors share the same conviction—a family united by common DNA. It is Hublot.

While the term may have been coined in 2014 by Jean- Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot, and Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, it is a philosophy that has been deeply rooted in the brand’s DNA since its inception in 1980. Hublot was the first ever luxury watch brand to combine gold with natural rubber. Ever since then, Hublot has gone on to create numerous new materials unseen anywhere else in the world of luxury horology.

The use of metals in their original form and the first ore reductions date back to prehistoric times. However, it was only during the industrial revolution that the various forms of metals and alloys were developed. Nowadays, the possibilities seem limitless. There are now a plethora of forms, compositions and applications. It is within these possibilities that Hublot is constantly evolving and reinventing, drawing from an infinite source of inspiration.

Hublonium, King Gold, and Magic Gold are exclusive alloys formed by a combination of carbon and metal. Sapphire, one of the hardest and most scratch-resistant materials, can be found in several Hublot creations. St Gallen embroidery, flax fibre, velvet, and suit fabric can be found in an array of colours throughout Hublot’s collections. In order to release the full potential of the brand’s pursuit in R&D, the Nyon-based manufacture has had its own foundry since 2012. There is also a team dedicated to the metallurgy and developing materials.

“The art of fusion” is also a stance that finds its expressions far beyond the materials. It is a mindset that guides all of Hublot’s actions and partnerships. The pursuit of excellence, distinction, and innovation are all traits that Hublot’s partners and ambassadors share with the brand.

These men and women are set to change the course of history alongside Hublot. They include athletes who have left a permanent mark in their sport like Usain Bolt, Kobe Bryant and Pelé: brilliant artists going against the mainstream like Lang Lang, Sang Bleu and Andreas Caminada, and brands that are also constantly looking to push the limits like Ferrari, Italia Independent and AK Ski. Individually, and collectively, the embody “The art of fusion”.

Jean- Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot and President of LVMH Group Watch Division, sums it up best with the following quote: “Fusion is life. It’s a philosophy. A concept so simple that it is child’s play. Therein lies the key to success: innovation which reveals this self-evident premise. From time immemorial, the greatest achievements have grown out of the simplest ideas.”
