Indah Kapuk in North Jakarta became the capital’s newest go-to destination for foodies from all corners of the city. The fervour at which the region developed saw countless restaurants and eateries exit the region as quickly as they had entered it. Amid a flurry of constant changes, an establishment has withstood the test of time: Sainé Daise Bistro.

Sainé Daise Bistro serves up a menu of fusion dishes with inspirations from all around the world. Prepared meticulously with only the freshest and most premium of ingredients, each dish at Sainé Daise is both a visual and flavourful masterpiece. Diners looking to end the meal on a sweet note get to choose from an array of artisanal pastries and desserts from EIO Patisserie, located right below the bistro.

Our guests for the afternoon were Tusyana Suryadi and her daughter Claudia. Walking into a fully packed Sainé Daise, the motherdaughter duo’s calm and elegant poise was a stark contrast to the bustling dining room. Despite a long ride in the pouring rain, the amiable pair was more than happy to chat once they settled in.

Claudia had just recently returned from seven years of studying and working abroad—much to the delight of her mum. Having majored in interior designing and garnering experience in the US, Claudia is eager to seek out more challenges and opportunities back home.

“Ultimately, I think it was missing my family that made me decide to come back,” said Claudia.

While Tusyana understood her daughter’s position—having studied at the same college prior—she was more than delighted to have Claudia back home.

“For years I have tried everything—from threatening to bribing to begging—to get her to come home. Nothing worked,” said Mrs Tusyana. “We are all very happy to have her back.”

Both Tusyana and Claudia are, in their own words, huge foodies. In between working on her portfolio and looking for work, Claudia and her mum had been travelling around town tasting the best that Jakarta had to offer. While Claudia is still a big fan of food in California, it was Tusyana’s homemade rawon that she missed the most.

Tusyana is not the ordinary homemaker she claims to be. In addition to making the best rawon in Jakarta, she is also a member of an award-winning all-female choir. The choir has travelled the world, winning competitions in numerous cities across Europe and Asia.
