Tatler Indonesia

Editorial Note

It’s that time of year again! Yes, our Generation T list (aka “Gen.t”) of 50 of Indonesia’s high achievers and movers and shakers all under 40 years of age is officially released on August 10—follow our website for the official unveiling and for more details of this momentous event. Meanwhile, our cover story this almost-autumnal month of August focuses on four of these fantastic figures drawn from the worlds of technology, lifestyle, fashion, and more from which “Tribe” members choose the cream of the crop. The Tribe consists of 21 handpicked luminaries: the country’s most powerful and influential leaders from these industries, all of whom—along with the honourees themselves— are our nation’s proudest representatives for an initiative that ranges right across the Asia-wide network of seven other Tatler titles.

So this issue features interviews with the Cofounder of ESQA Cosmetics, Kezia Toemion; the CEO and Co-founder of Qraved, Steven Kim; the Managing Director of EBI Watch, Kartika Winata; and actor Dion Wiyoko. Each has something fascinating to say about his or her upcoming projects, how they measure success, what leaving a legacy means to them, and fun facts you may very well not know about them. Who’d have thought, for example, that Qraved pioneer Steven Kim enjoys toying with Lego blocks? Find out more in “Bright Sparks”.

This month also sees the opening of the Asian Games 2018, which means we shift gears into a sportier tone in “Let the Games Begin!”. Here, we chat with six of the athletes who are the nation’s official Indonesian teams’ Ambassadors, digging into their preparations, both mental and physical, for the challenges that lie ahead. One thing’s for sure: we wish them all the luck in the world—not that they’ll need it, because preparation, as we all know, is key to everything in life.

Elsewhere in this issue of Indonesia Tatler we have a heart-to-heart with former art dealer Jais Darga, whose illustrious career has proven that a woman can not only survive but also thrive in the male-dominated world of international art dealing. And bringing balance to the issue, seasoned politician Dr Ferry J. Juliantono reveals to us what has driven him to effect changes in the country he loves so much.

And so it remains for me to say: I hope you enjoy all these stories plus our usual round-up of regular reads. Happy August!
