Opened in 2014, the modern décor in the Urso complements the early 20th-century exterior of this former palace. There are 78 rooms, seven meeting spaces (the largest seats 70 people theatre-style) and a restaurant that is run as a pop-up with a new chef – and a new look – every five weeks. NH COLLECTION EURO BUILDING

A multimillion-euro refurbishment in 2014 has given this hotel a sparkling new look. Leading-edge technology includes one of the world’s largest LED screens on the lobby ceiling and holographic tech in one of the boardrooms; even the facade of the building can be customised. NOVOTEL MADRID CENTRE

ROOM MATE OSCAR

Opened in 2007, off the Gran Via, and part of local group Room Mate Hotels, the Oscar combines quirky décor with clever design that makes the most of the bedroom space. Six meeting rooms (holding up to 100 people conference-style) cater for smaller gatherings but the lively atmosphere makes it ideal for young groups. THE PRINCIPAL

Unveiled just over a year ago, the Principal hits the mark when it comes to five-star elegance. The 76-room property has three meeting rooms (147 delegates seated in the largest) and four smaller spaces, including a roof terrace (50 people for cocktails).
