T5 TO T3 TRANSFER

I have a three-hour connection from Brussels, landing at [Heathrow] T5 then on to Nairobi, departing from T3. Can I leave T5 to get some, erm, fresh air before going on to T3? Perhaps the smokers can help? I’ll be travelling BA First, though I have no reason to assume that will help.

Yes, but you will need to go through passport control. Take the Heathrow Express free of charge from T5 landside to the Central Terminal Area (T3) and walk to T3. Fast-track security at T3 has been pretty fast the past few times I have used it.

You will need to go landside to have a smoke. It begs the question I have raised before – if Heathrow is serious about being a transit airport, it needs to cater to smokers. Frankfurt and Singapore do it well; Heathrow, nothing.

You will need to enter the UK at T5 through immigration. In arrivals go to your right until you see the Giraffe outlet, use the exit doors and go to your right – this is the only designated smoking area for T5 arrivals. Then, as suggested, take the Heathrow Express one station to T3 and you can pop outside departures for your last one. Your checked luggage is no issue.
