SUPPLY AND DEMAND

Press releases seldom contain disappointing news and, earlier today, I could only smile when I read your story on Wizz Air’s plans to expand operations at Luton. The airline’s chief executive, Jozsef Varadi, is quoted as saying that this news “once again underlines Wizz Air’s commitment to the UK”. My recent experience tells a different tale, with reference in particular to the airline’s Glasgow (GLA) to Poznan (POZ) service.

Five times in under a year, I have received emails from the carrier advising of either a schedule change or cancellation on the route. Two flights a week each way had been the norm for some time, but this was reduced to just a Saturday service shortly after the start of the year. There was even a press release at one time that detailed plans to expand the service to three times a week, but these extra rotations never came to fruition.

Now comes the news that Wizz Air is abandoning the route altogether. The final POZ-GLA (W6 1919) and GLA-POZ (W6 1920) flights are scheduled for Saturday March 11, 2017. Having booked several flights with the company only to find them amended or cancelled a few weeks later, my confidence in the airline is rapidly disappearing.

Could it be that there are other Wizz Air services to or from the UK that are being pruned or dropped? Perhaps Jozsef Varadi will answer your questions on PoznanGlasgow-Poznan and other UK flights that might have suffered the same fate? Laurence Mitchell, Preston
