Coya Angel Court

- Michelle Harbi

Arjun Waney’s Latin American restaurant group Coya opened its second London location in May. The new Angel Court development is a short walk from Bank station, and seats 170 guests across the restaurant and bar (order pisco sours and margaritas). It’s been cleverly divided into sections so as not to feel cavernous and is a colourful, glamorous space.

Executive chef Sanjay Dwivedi’s contemporary, Asian-influenced Peruvian dishes are equally vibrant. The menu includes ceviche, tiraditos (like sashimi in a spicy sauce), tacos and anticuchos (marinated skewers), as well as larger fish and meat dishes, and rice-based cazuelas.

Small plates include chicken tacos with huancaina (a spicy cheese sauce), corn and pickled carrots – a good combination of crunch, creaminess and kick – and cerdo bao – deliciously juicy slow-cooked pulled pork with oniony salsa criolla in plump bao buns. From the mains, the arroz nikkei cazuela (Chilean sea bass, rice, lime and chilli) is particularly lovely, the fish fillet flaked and mixed into the rice and sauce at the table.

VERDICT A most enjoyable high-end experience that should prove popular with the well-heeled workers of the City.
